Our Story
The India Sri Lanka Foundation is a trust fund established on December 28, 1998 by a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Governments of India and Sri Lanka, with the objective of fostering India – Sri Lanka relations through the enhancement of economic, scientific, educational, technical and cultural cooperation and the promotion of greater understanding between the peoples of the two countries.
The management and direction of the Foundation are vested in a Board of Directors consisting of 6 members.
The High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka in Colombo and the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to India in New Delhi are the Co-Chairpersons of the Board. The other four members are nominated by the two Governments.
Over the years, the Foundation has made substantial progress in terms of implementing a large variety of projects aimed at promoting bilateral cooperation. The deriving motive behind the ISLF is the belief that paucity of funds should not become a furkle that constraints the implementation of any innovative idea that have the potential to further strengthen India – Sri Lanka ties. The Foundation has made a significant impact on strengthening people to people contacts in diverse fields through funding various projects in last 22 years. So far more than 300 projects worth SLR.150 Million have been completed successfully.
